Pit Bulls like other breeds have varying heat cycles. There isn't 1 answers that is always correct.
I have personally had or known of Pit Bulls who had their 1st heat any where from 4 months old to almost 2yrs old. Many people also believe that tightly inbred dogs take longer to have their 1st heat.
Again it can vary how often your female will come in heat.
Generally female dogs come in heat every 6 months in most breeds. However individual dogs might have a different time. I have know some that come in every 4 months, others 9 months or only once a year. Sometimes a dog will come in heat regularly and then change the cycle. Females might change cycles to match up with other female. They will have their cycles together, you can end up having 3 or 4 females together that have heats close together.
