Yes and No. There is not a certain type of Pit Bull that is known as a Turtlebuster Pit Bull, however there is a bloodline within the American Pit Bull Terrier known as the Turtlebuster line.
Turtlebuster was a champion fighting dog in Pit Bull history. He and his progeny were known as having a hard mouth/bite. He produced several winning fighting dogs, the most well known is Gaines' Fargo.
Turtlebuster is a dog that is bred from some old lines, specifically the "Old Family" and "Old Family Reds". We will look at that later. Most Tutlebuster dogs you see are generally black or brindle, sometimes they might be a red/tan or even white.
Now you will see Turtlebuster in the pedigree of todays show or working APBTs. There are several Champion and even Grand Champion show dogs who have turtlebuster in their pedigree.
Turtlebuster has been crossed to other strains of the "Old Family" dogs and also commonly with RedBoy. The Norrod line which is heavy Red Devil also has turtlebuster along with other De Cordova dogs and Hemphill and Red Boy dogs.
Turtlebuster is not an extremely common line like so many are, but those who have owned it or seek it consider it highly valued.
What bloodlines did Turtlebuster come from?
His sire Brutus was of Kingfish bloodlines, infact he was triplebred GR CH Kingfish. Kingfish has the old Lightner and Con Feeley dogs in his bloodline, as well as some Colby & Tacoma (a AmStaff line that goes back to Colby). There is also some of Hemphills dogs in his pedigee. His dam Game & Grit is of Red Devil & De Cordova breeding. Those dogs also go back to the old lines of Corvino, Colby, Heinzl and Tudor.
