This is a general thread about ear cropping as people have different questions regarding it.
How old should I get my dogs ears cropped?
I like to wait until they are at least 8 weeks and no more then 12 weeks personally. I think younger is a danger with anesetia if they are going under, with a local anestetic its not an issue. Some vets don't use it at all. Older they have more developed cartlege which means pain and longer healing time.
Some vets will do ears at any age and some vets have a cut like 12 weeks or 6 months. So how old your vet is willing to crop your dogs ears depends on their prefference.
What do I do after?
Ears are relatively easy to care for after cropped. The only thing that might add to the job is taping, however APBTs generally do not need taping. Their ears are a short crop that stands alone. You just need to keep your pup clean, don't let them roll around in the dirt just like with any other wound. The vet may advise you to not get them wet the stitches. Usually the stitches will be removed in 7-10 days. Some vets may provide antibiotics, but generally they do not as the risk for infection is low.
